Save the Date for the Better Together: Back-to-School Block Party—on Sunday, August 10, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, stretching from the Cherry Avenue Boys & Girls Club to Forest Hills Park.
This free, family-centered event is made possible through the strength of our combined community partnerships. We’re honored to collaborate with:
Flow Toyota of Charlottesville, the 100Cuts Initiative, DREAM Clothing, Prolyfyck, Mahogany and Friends, Sentara, the Black Professional Network of Charlottesville, and the 100 Black Men of Central Virginia to make this day unforgettable.
There will be something for everyone—music, food, bounce houses, basketball, a game truck, story time, and even a shady tree to enjoy a good book under. But most importantly, we’ll ensure students are ready to thrive on day one.
Here’s what families can expect:
- On-site student registration and sign-ups for free school supplies
- Free haircuts, braids, and new sneakers
- Free sports physicals and health resources
- Literacy stations and free books to take home
- A vibrant atmosphere full of music, games, and community spirit
Background
For more than a decade, the African American Pastors Council’s Back-to-School Bash at the Ting Pavilion has been a cherished tradition in our community. Their work has touched the lives of tens of thousands of families and laid a strong foundation of service and support. This year, the Pastors Council is passing the baton, and while they will not be hosting their annual event, we remain deeply grateful for their leadership and lasting impact.
Charlottesville City Schools and the Back 2 School Bash committee are committed to carrying this torch forward with this block party as well as Cville Schools’ process to provide free school supplies for those in need, both of which have been happening independently for the past two years.
